ANTIQUE YORK SAFE LOCK 1890s? EXCELLENT shape Unusual "T" handle on dial

Up for SALE is a YORK SAFE & LOCK Combination Lock. Built in “T” handle in safe dial makes it easier to rotate dial and engage the driver to extract the bolt.

This lock looks like NEW old STOCK. Amazing shape. VERY UNUSUAL Nickel over brass bolt assembly. This may have been a display lock…I have never seen the bolt work with nickel over brass. Obviously unused or the delicate nickel plating would be worn. One spot where the nickel has flaked off.

4 number combination. This style of lock uses a change key thru the back to change the combination. (No change key included). Combination will be included to the winning bidder.

HEAVY DUTY combination works smoothly. Very precise. Well-made lock. I’m guessing it dates to 1890s-1900. I think YORK made their own locks….but this looks very similar to the S&G Sargent and Greenleaf safe locks around the same time period.

This is the way I Found it…someone inserted 3 plastic dowels on the backside of the dial ring to keep it stationary for a display. I’m assuming the dial spindle is original length so this safe lock was probably used on an interior burglar proof safe. It measures ˝ inch from back of dial ring to body of lock. 2 ˝ inches to back of lock.

BODY assembly is Nickel over Steel. I don't think it's stainless but not 100% sure.
